South by Southwest (SXSW) isn't just a conference or festival; it is a sprawling convergence of innovation, music, film, TV and culture. With hundreds of venues spread across Austin, Texas, the entire city transforms into a labyrinth of creativity every March. For attendees, the sheer scale of the event is both its greatest draw and its biggest challenge. Walking the streets without a solid plan is a recipe for exhaustion, missed opportunities and sore feet. Powered by Eventbase, the official SXSW GO app was an essential guide to navigating the event. It delivered a deeply personalized mobile experience, ensuring your festival journey was uniquely yours.

As an intelligent digital co-pilot powered by Eventbase, the SXSW mobile app delivered a highly personalized event experience tailored to each attendee's access level. Because specific badge types determined event eligibility, the app seamlessly adapted its interface to streamline scheduling and navigation. Platinum Badge holders received a comprehensive cross-section of the entire festival, while those with Music, Film & TV, or Innovation Badges were provided with curated itineraries focused precisely on their relevant tracks and industry categories.
Personalization with Discover
The first screen attendees saw when they opened the SXSW mobile app is a personalized Home screen with a welcome message, quick links, recommendations and a view of what’s “Up Next” in their schedule. Eventbase’s unique Discover feature allows SXSW to create unique Home screens for each attendee and update this regularly to highlight what’s most important at each stage of the event. SXSW takes this further by creating unique Discover Sequences for each Badge Type, so attendees with a Music Badge have a different experience from those with a Film & TV, Innovation or Platinum Badge.
Curating Attendee Experiences
The SXSW Schedule is a comprehensive guide to everything taking place across the 7 day festival. With thousands of sessions, film screenings and music showcases occurring simultaneously, time management is your most valuable asset. The SXSW app moves beyond a simple calendar listing to become a proactive scheduling assistant.
Easy Filters & Session Indicators
This year, the app includes prominent “easy filters” that let attendees quickly focus on the topics that mattered most to them. Events in the Schedule are tagged with icons that specify the type of badge needed to attend and a helpful Session Indicator displaying which sessions were full or nearly full, allowing attendees to decide if they want to go or find something else nearby.
Reserve A Spot
In 2026, we added a new feature that let attendees reserve spots at specific events using the mobile app. Even though these spots were limited, making a reservation was the only way to guarantee a seat at the events you wanted to see the most.
Set Reminders
It is incredibly easy to get caught up in a conversation on 6th Street and completely lose track of time. The SXSW app allows you to set reminders shortly before a session or showcase is about to start. These gentle nudges can be the difference between getting a seat at a popular film premiere and being stuck outside in the standby line.
My Favorites
In addition to building a personal Schedule, attendees can easily "favorite" contributors (speakers, artists, directors etc.), exhibitors, venues and more. Favorites can be accessed by selecting “My SXSW” then "My Favorites." This creates a highly personalized directory of the people and events that matter most to an attendee’s specific goals. Building this list early helps attendees prioritize their days and ensures they do not miss out.
Personalized Schedule
The "My Schedule" section of the app shows you all the events you have reserved, added to your calendar (favorited) or set a reminder for. You can add or remove events on the fly, allowing you to pivot your plans as the day evolves. Having a centralized, customizable itinerary means you never have to guess where you need to be next.
Making Connections
Networking is a massive component of the SXSW experience. The app provided built-in tools to help attendees connect with each other, share insights and keep your finger on the pulse of the festival.
Braindates
Braindates are a unique networking feature designed to facilitate meaningful conversations. Unlike traditional networking, where you might exchange quick pleasantries, Braindates allows you to schedule one-on-one or small group discussions on specific topics. You can post a topic you'd like to discuss or browse topics posted by others and join their conversation. It's a fantastic way to connect deeply with people who share your specific interests or to get expert advice on a challenge you're facing.
Attendee Networking
Want to connect with a specific person or find attendees with similar interests? The Attendee Directory is your go-to feature. Browse the full list of attendees, filter by category and message attendees directly within the app to schedule a meetup or start a conversation. It's the easiest way to find and connect with the people you want to meet at SXSW.
