The SXSW GO app is essential for navigating over 7,000 sessions at 300 venues in Austin, Texas, and the key to enhancing the attendee experience was the app’s standout feature, Discover.
Introduced in the previous year, Discover set a new benchmark for personalization at large-scale events. This dynamic welcome screen revolutionized how attendees interact with the event right from the get-go, offering a curated first impression that adapts to each individual's journey through the festival. For 2024, the app leveraged data from the previous year to elevate Discover creating an even more intuitive and personalized gateway into the festival's many sessions and shows.

Discover showcased 50 unique screens, each meticulously designed to mirror the vibrant pulse of SXSW. From pre-event planning to real-time updates during the festival, Discover provided a seamless, adaptive platform that not only highlighted key sessions, films, and showcases but also promoted a sense of discovery and spontaneity among attendees.
The app's search functionality was also refined, navigation was simplified, and distinct launch pages were developed for the festival's types of sessions: Conference, Film & TV, and Music. These improvements, grounded in extensive usability testing, were aimed at addressing the unique needs of SXSW's diverse attendee base, ensuring an accessible, enriching festival experience for all.
The SXSW GO app achieved impressive engagement levels, with over 900,000 unique views of the Discover Screen. The average engagement time soared to nearly 58 minutes per attendee, a testament to the app's compelling content and user-friendly design. The live session capacity indicator further enhanced the app's utility by providing real-time updates on session availability, a critical tool for navigating the packed SXSW schedule.
