The editors of Event Marketer magazine recently announced the winners of the 2017 Experience Design & Technology Awards, the world’s largest and only recognition program celebrating the best-designed live event experiences and digital event engagement worldwide. We’re proud to announce that Eventbase has been named Gold Winner in the Best Event App category for the third time.
Sharing in our gold win is South by Southwest (SXSW) and their official app SXSW Go, which introduced attendees to “Abby”, a purpose-built automated bot that could answer attendee questions with personalized recommendations, and a little bit of attitude. Embedded within the official 2017 SXSW Go mobile app, the AI chatbot acted as a personalized concierge to answer questions and enhance the attendee experience at the massive conference and festivals that took place in Austin in March 2017. The app also introduced SXSW Recommends, a feature that offered attendees hyper-local recommendations by detecting your location through Bluetooth beacons, then suggesting people you may want to meet within the same session room as you. The result was thousands of new connections and a seamless networking experience.
Abby helped guide attendees to sessions, shows and networking possibilities, offering users quick replies within a familiar messaging interface. Send Abby a taco emoji, and she would help guide you to the nearest food trucks available. Using Natural Language Processing, Abby communicates a more meaningful experience to attendees during the event in a fun, casual style. Currently, Abby is heading back to school to learn how she can better help attendees at SXSW 2018 next spring.
