Consumer Electronics Show (CES) upgrades its mobile event app & adds networking for the first time

For 50 years, CES has been the launchpad for new innovation and technology that has changed the world. Held in Las Vegas every year, it is the world’s gathering place for people who thrive in the business of consumer technologies and where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace. Attendees relied on the official CES app to help them get around, navigate the breadth of content and make the most of their time at CES.

An event of this scale, with over 180,000 attendees and more than 4,000 exhibiting companies in attendance, is extremely complex. The need for a comprehensive mobile solution that would fully engage and inform the attendees was a priority for CES.

More than 3,000 Gimbal beacons – the largest deployment of proximity beacons at a show to date – were distributed across official venues and provided attendees with in-app point-to-point navigation and routing details via 3D maps. On top of that the CES app featured attendee networking with a LinkedIn integration, which made it easier for users to message each other and arrange meetings on-site right from their phone or tablet.

“We want attendees to be able to effortlessly navigate our multiple show venues and have easy access to a great deal of information. We’re working with Eventbase to leverage thousands of beacons throughout the show floor to continue the expansion of this navigation system and create a more interactive experience for attendees.”
