Calling All Makers and Creators
Seeing the Coke Zero and Mentos fountain show; watching a metal praying mantis spit fire into the sky; and checking out all the wonderful initiatives encouraging women in STEM. These are just a few of the inventive and creative experiences enjoyed by Eventabasers Won and Kiran who chose the Maker Faire Bay Area as their Ticket To Ride (TTR).
Eventbase has powered the Bay Area Maker Faire app for the past few years and it was great to partner with them to create the 2016 app. Won, our COO (and a woman in STEM!), and Kiran, a UX Designer, enjoyed this event which is described as “part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors.”
Won chose Maker Faire as her TTR – and took her daughter with her - as “my daughter is a little creator so we wanted to explore that with her!” While for Kiran, “it's always been an event I wanted to go to. I love the culture of invention and innovation in the Bay Area. It's very inspiring!”
Won found it an “awesome event for makers for all sorts - artists, inventors, scientists, tinkerers. If you like creating things this is a great event to explore!”
“It was eye-opening to see the a variety of applications of current technologies,” says Kiran. “To be immersed in a group of enthusiastic new and veteran makers with all their creative ideas was invigorating. It also brought to my awareness the specific needs of our app in such an event - where there was no clear spatial navigation. It was akin to a country fair or flea market. The need for invisible UI is key at such an event.”
Whether you’re developing our apps or overseeing our operations, as part of our TTR program you get to travel to an event we’ve created the app for - an experience that’s fun, enriching and an important part of our culture.
