Cannes Lion is the industry’s signature event for individuals in the advertising and communications industry, attracting the world’s biggest brands and agencies. This discerning, innovative audience, known for their prestigious, cutting edge work in advertising and communications, expects an app that's not just 100% reliable and functional but equally importantly, one that's innovative and fresh.

The 2014 Cannes Lions Festival app from Eventbase won ‘Best Event App’ at the 2014 Event Technology Awards, so expectations were high for 2015. With over 12,000 attendees from more than 90 countries, not only were the app's stability and performance integral to the event, but this year's app was very much about enhancing discovery, sporting smarter social networking features, accelerated content discovery, enhanced use of beacon technology and making the conference experience richer and more engaging.

It's easy to be overcome by option paralysis when it comes to planning which sessions to attend at such a massive event which is why this year's app focused on making the comprehensive program more accessible and easier to navigate. The app helped attendees hone their session choices by showing those their LinkedIn connections planned to attend. This deeper level of content discovery was also personalized based on session tags and user profiles and helped attendees find the most relevant sessions.

Networking is key at an event like Cannes Lions and the 2015 app helped deliver more meaningful connections with the Around Me feature which used iBeacon-enhanced networking that also integrated with LinkedIn to let attendees view which, if any, of their first-degree connections were in the area. And the in-app social networking matchmaking feature, Icebreaker, alerted attendees based on similar interests and prior session attendance and prompted them to virtually “break the ice” and instigate conversations focused on high-value connections.

In addition the awards, a legendary aspect of the festival, were released and broadcast through the app. Exhibits at the Palais des Festivals showcasing the best campaigns were enhanced by the app as attendees could scan an exhibit's QR code, add it to favourites and even share the innovative work they were seeing with colleagues who weren't in attendance.
