Tens of thousands of film buffs are descending on Lower Manhattan for the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. To help festival-goers navigate its vast schedule of films, venues and events, we’re thrilled to be powering the official event app so you can start planning now. While veterans can expect to have a comprehensive guide and schedule at their fingertips, they should also anticipate this year’s mobile experience to be very different.

After the buzz around iBeacon at SXSW in Austin last month, Tribeca Film Festival will be enabling this cool new technology to reshape the attendee experience. iBeacons are low-energy transmitters that have the ability to detect and alert smartphone and other devices in its vicinity. Fans and organizers alike should be delighted with some of the ways that this and other innovative features could make TFF 2014 a festival experience like no other.

Discover Hidden Gems

Tribeca’s film lineup, while stellar, can be daunting. So how do you identify the next festival break-out? Start with the Discover component of the app – an interactive showcase of featured films that changes every time you view it. Each highlight delves into the film’s trailer, write-up, and more, allowing audiences to explore movies in depth and find features they may not have discovered on their own.

Never Out of the Loop

Festival alerts, targeted messages, breaking information and exclusive promotions - at this rapidly growing event, film audiences can rest assured that they won’t miss a thing. As much planning goes into an attendee’s experience, it’s not uncommon to stray from a set agenda. iBeacon technology automatically notifies users of nearby venues, screening times, last-minute tickets, and offers.

Wish You Were Here

The app’s scrollable and easily-filtered calendar will make building a personalized schedule seamless. And in addition to helping attendees plan this year, the app also makes it easy to share a personal screening agenda with friends and family. Want to share your thoughts on films that you’ve viewed? These can be saved to the app and shared via email.

Buy On The Fly

Thanks to a collaboration with Eventbrite, festival attendees will be able to purchase both film and event tickets directly from their devices, even up to 30 minutes before the start time. So keep your options open and see where the night takes you.
