Time To Beer Up
Hanging out with your co-workers while enjoying craft beer sounds fun but not all that unusual, especially in Vancouver. Unless you and a group of your colleagues are headed from Vancouver to Philadelphia to experience Philly Beer Week live and in person as part of our Ticket To Ride (TTR) initiative. Ticket To Ride offers each member of our team the opportunity to attend an event we’ve developed the app for and get a first-hand view of our apps in their natural environments.
In June of 2016, Eventbasers Christina, Kristen, Aliya, and Shayne flew from Vancouver to Philly to take in Philly Beer Week. Philadelphia is rumored to be America’s best beer-drinking city and this 10-day festival celebrates Philly’s diverse beer community.
Our Eventbase crew was drawn to this TTR by the opportunity to check out Philly and to drink craft beer, while hanging out with coworkers in a new environment. They explored the city in the hunt for participating pubs, took in a Phillies game, met locals, and had a great time.
As for experiencing the Philly Beer Week app in action, they all took away something valuable:
Christina, a Production QA Lead, found it very insightful to be at an event thinking like a user rather than a developer. It got her thinking “What would they want the app to do? What would they change? What’s in the app that just isn't used by a typical user?”
Kristen, a Production Coordinator, found that the event “really showcased how our Favoriting feature, comes in handy. It was a great way for us to not miss a single place we wanted to visit, as this event was really spread out!”
Shayne, a QA Analyst, found it useful “to see what happens when there is engagement between consumers and suppliers.”
Aliya, a Windows Developer and Team Lead, found it “eye-opening to use our app and see how it works as an attendee. We used to it find the beer gardens and keep an eye out for events as we were checking out the city - which was great!”
The four of them are bringing all that insight back to their work, plus their memories of the Phillies game and checking out the city (and the beer!). We toasted their safe return with local craft beer, which we think is better than the beer in Philly. Just saying.
