Foodies Unite at Chicago Gourmet!

event mobile app chicago gourmet festival

For one weekend every September Millennium Park in Chicago turns into foodie heaven thanks to Bon Appétit presents Chicago Gourmet.  The weekend is filled with top chefs demoing their techniques and sharing their stories; wine and cocktail seminars; and tastings of gourmet creations from amazing restaurants, wineries, spirit purveyors, and breweries.  If you love food this is the place to be!  This past September four Eventbasers were part of the crowd enjoying all that Chicago Gourmet has to offer as part of our Ticket to Ride program (TTR).

Stuart, Mae, Ron and Sharon all chose Chicago Gourmet as their TTR for similar reasons – they’d never been to Chicago and, as Stuart said, “I very much enjoy amazing food!”

Chicago and delicious food aside, Sharon found that “having worked on this app last year, I was very interested in seeing it in action as we rarely work on events like this.”

This is one of the reasons we run our TTR program, it allows each team member to experience the apps we develop at the event they’re developed for. Using our apps in the environment they’re designed for is an invaluable opportunity that leads to ideas on how to use and improve upon what we build.  The insight these four brought back to our office reflects the experience they gained at Chicago Gourmet.

Stuart recognized that “it definitely helps to have the app available some time before the event, so that as an attendee you have time to look through the schedule and other items available at the event. There's generally no time during an event as there is so much going on. It has made me appreciate the importance of getting an app out on time.”

Sharon came back “thinking about ways we can have people engage more with the app at events like this where people have their hands full of food.”

Mae and Ron came back with an appreciation for visiting new cities and the importance of downloading the app ahead of time to plan your attack at an event.

As for the rest of our team’s time in Chicago, it involved a lot of amazing food including deep dish pizza; a 4-person bike ride that made for a fun "team-building" experience; checking out Chicago's architecture; and even more delicious food.

Now they’re back in Vancouver (and their food coma has passed) they’re working on solving the puzzle of making our apps even more accessible, no matter what event you’re attending and how much food and wine you’re juggling.

It definitely helps to have the app available some time before the event, so that as an attendee you have time to look through the schedule and other items available at the event. There's generally no time during an event as there is so much going on. It has made me appreciate the importance of getting an app out on time.
